So since Jonah turned 5 months, he now realizes when we're not around. Of course going to Caroline's is still wonderful. He plays all day with his friends Ethan & Landry, and Daniel. At Caroline's there is an infant room and a toddler room. The infant room is where she works on his tummy time, sitting up time, storytime, and music. The toddler room has more big kid toys and activities. And when Caroline is not with Jonah in the infant room, he loves to be with the big kids! He sits in the Bumbo and they roll the ball to him and tell him to catch-- isn't that the cutest? A 2 year old telling Jonah to catch as Jonah just smiles at them. Jonah just watches everything they do- such good social role models (ok, that is the teacher in me, but it's true).
But when Mommy & Daddy go on a date, Jonah now realizes we're gone and he's with someone else. He makes that "poutty" face with his lips and the tears come down (real tears) and we haven't even left the house yet. It breaks our heart to see him cry, but we're glad to wonderful people who volunteer to watch Jonah for us and where we he gets to display one of his developmental milestones- recognizing when parents are not in the room and reacting to it.
So after we talked to Justine, we got a system that works for him to be ok for that short time Mom & Dad are gone. He isn't crying anymore when Mom & Dad go out for a date night. He has fun with someone else who loves and cares for him while Mom & Dad have time for themselves. Yipee!
He's now imitating all the sounds we make. We basically go through the alphabet randomly saying those sounds and some other funny ones and he loves it- smiling and laughing all the way! He's reaching for things too- we now have to be careful for what we put in front of him b/c it takes like 2 seconds until he puts it up to his mouth. He loves to touch my face which is weird since he doesn't touch Rick's. He immediately puts his hands all over my face and at times grabs my hair, necklace and earrings. He babbles a lot. He'll just be "talking" to us and we respond vebally and he says more or even we just respond with our faces and he reacts. Jonah is still sleeping through the night and is reaching for his bottle. He still can't hold it, but he knows when he sees it as is hands go out to reach for it and the mouth is open wide- how quick they learn where the good stuff is!
Jonah loves to be outside-we take walks at night time and he looks all around at all the surroundings, smelling the difference between inside and outside, and hearing all the noises. I read how we take all of these things for granted, but when you see them through a baby's eyes, ears, nose, etc, it's all so different. And it's true, when you really focus on your surroundings outside it's completely new to them when they spend all day inside. Too cool!
And my favorite- he's reaching for his feet and bringing them to his mouth- such a great sight to see! If we were all so flexible- we just say he's practicing his Yoga. Trying to get a pic of this one.
